Instead, winning organizations will build new measurement capabilities focused on flow and absorption rather than just production and activity. They will redesign approval processes, review workflows, and decision-making structures to handle AI-accelerated work. They will deploy AI strategically based on where skill-leveling effects create the most value. And they will build systems that capture and compound the knowledge AI helps workers create.
The productivity paradox won’t resolve through better AI models alone. It will resolve when organizations finally redesign themselves around AI’s capabilities rather than trying to fit AI into pre-existing structures. That transformation takes time, investment, and leadership willing to make structural changes that traditional productivity metrics won’t immediately validate.
The future belongs to organizations that understand this reality and act on it anyway. Because while the productivity gains may take years to show up in aggregate statistics, the competitive advantages of getting organizational design right compound silently in the background. By the time the numbers prove it worked, the winners will already be impossible to catch.
